I like to ask them to hold so I can get a pen, or some other random excuse. I then take the phone to another room, set it down and close the door. After about twenty minutes I go back and hang it up. Once there was still a guy on the line waiting. I asked him to hang on another sec and then just hung up the phone. They never call back, at least not anytime soon. Reply

You should NEVER say "yes" or any affirmative word to telemarketers because they can rearrange recordings of the phone conversation to make it look like you agreed to the terms of some agreement, and it would hold up in a court of law because you can't prove that the recording has been manipulated. That was a riot! I would suggest the following, as my husband generally handles the telemarketers. My husband says, "Sure, could you hold a moment please, I have to get some paper." Then he says, "Now, I am ready. I will first need a valid credit card number and the expiration date so we can talk. My time will be billed directly to your credit card in 15 minute intervals. So, I am ready: your credit card number please? Also, This call will be monitored for training purposes. And please answer yes or no to this question. Do you understand the terms and conditions of this offer of my time?" They hang up every time! LOL!

Yes. The guy said "yes", to everything the telemarketer said. Summary of the phone call: Telemarketer (TM): "I see in your records that you're having trouble with your credit, is that the case?" GUY: "Yes". TM: "Do you want to improve your Credit Score and get out of debt?" GUY: "Yes". TM: "How much debt would that be?" GUY: "Yes". TM: "Would that be over $20,000?" GUY: "Yes". TM: "Do you currently have a job?" GUY: "Yes". TM: "Are you making over $35,000 a year?" GUY: "Yes". TM: "Are you a resident of New York State?" GUY: "Yes". TM: "Could you recite the last four digits of your Social Security Number?" GUY: "Yes". TM: "Perhaps you'd like to verify your number through cell phone. Would that be alright?" Guy: "Yes!" TM: "If I say, I need you to answer yes or no to the following questions?" GUY: "Yes". TM: "You are interested in our Debt Consolidation program?" GUY: "Yes" TM: "You are a resident of New York State?" GUY: "Yes". TM: "You're also a m*****." GUY: "Yes". TM: "Ah good. Just checking. We want to make sure we have that on record." *click* GUY: "Yes!"
